Documenta 2017 in Kassel – worth to go

Kassel, July 2017

Every 5 years in Kassel, Germany is the biggest art event of the world. Over 100 days in more than 30 places around the city are art events. It was the first time I went to such an event. I´m an engineer – therefore art is normaly not my favorite subject. I must say that I liked that show. A friend of mine and I went for two days and we just shaw three places but I liked it. These pipes are concrete pipes, but the artist made houses out of them. Pretty strange but nice to see – many objects are playing with your fantancy, I like that.

Art is important to deal with rallity and influence the people and the zeitgeist.

I´m now the chairman of this group and my aim is it to publish an European Study to show the actual situation and to make recommendations for the Water Sector in Europe to improve the mobility among the countries and to get an transparent picture of the various approches. I also talked with EUREAU Vice President Claudia Castell-Extner (DVGW) to avoid dublication and to get support and with Mr. Ulmer, DVGW chairperson qualification.

I´m also interested to get more cooperation for the various challenges for students and technicians during the trade shows in Europe and to develop an Euroskill and Worldskill competition with more countries.

That is all challenging but we will make it working in the next 3-4 years.
The start was very good and we had a very good discussion on the various topics. We know that some more countries will join like France, Swiss, Belgium and Luxembourg.

4th Arab Water Week (AWW) – 1st UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE Arab Region

2-2017 1st Uni C Arab Jordanien (56)Jordan, Dead Sea

The AWW took place from 19.-21.3.2017 at the Dead Sea with more than 400 participants. In 46 sessions 144 lectures took place. 26 companies presented their products. ACWUA is doing a good job and the number of participants are growing from time to time.  I participated in all conferences so far. I do know ACWUA since its beginning because I was involved in the establishment of this association and I’m a honorary member.

2-2017 1st Uni C Arab Jordanien (59)

With the help of the Wilo Foundation we could conduct the 1st UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE for the Arab Region with 3 Universities. The Jordan University won this competition. It is the idea to attract more Universities in future, also from other ACWUA member states. The winning team will join the WORLD UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE during IFAT in Munich in May 2018.

I had help from Lena Gomer.  She did all the work and without her this event would not have taken place. I enjoyed the competition very much.Working with student is fun. I hope we could continue to work with ACWUA to establish and to extend this event in future.

New Zealand – worth to visit

Xmas 2016 varies this year. Time out in New Zealand (NZ) – a country worth to visit.

Clean air and water, nice relaxt people, beautiful landscape and good weather. The place I live in Germany (NRW) has 18 Mio. people – NZ has less than 5 Mio. Here is space enough, nature and water. NZ is using its resources – geothermal and water energy  are covering 70% of the energy. Nuclear power is 0% – nice.

Adrenalin is NZ selling item. Wherever you go you can jump from a bridge or plain, ride a fast Jet boat, take mountain bikes or ride a horse.

I took the Jet boat – that was fun – a good use for that clean water. I´m sure the wildlife on that part of the river has problems to live in peace.

Nevertheless a good present for xmas 2016 and my 60th birthday.

Singapore has changed it’s Marina

It it the fourth time beeing in Singapore. (1989, 1991, 2005)

Beside the financial center the Marina has changed a lot. Marina Beach Hotel and the Garden by the Bay are new for me. These places are unique. The Bay got a new barrage and that area (in the back) turned into sweet water.

Quit a number of changes for a City with 5.5 Mio. people. In water matters PUB is always on a smart way. They want to use their water properly.

If you think Germany is a clean country – you should see Singapore – they are on the top ten in the world.
