The German Team through the Trade Show – a nice picture
We visited some German Companies on the WEFTEC 2015.
Wilo first, they always supporting young professionals and Peter Stamm is in the DWA Board and supports international engagements. The Obländer-Stiftung supports DWA in setting up a new Universtity Challenge.
Huber second, Hans Huber was DWA Board member and very activ in many working groups. He died too early, we lost a great person. He always used to tell me that we should export the German Technician Qualification more often. He would loved to see the two German Teams in Chicago. Huber always supports the German Skill Competition.
Jan Talkenberger from Binder company is a strong supporter of young professionals. Since many years he supports this engagement.
Thanks to all companies in supporting these activities. Keep DWA skills competitions and initiatives in your mind.
Visit to our Sponsor IFAT Munich
Showing the we are present
Thanks to our sponsor IFAT Munich.
Thanks to the City of Düsseldorf.
Thanks to team members who pay everything themself.
Without financial supporters and privat enthusiastic engagement we would not be in Chicago. Three team members pay everything themself. The rest got sponsors.
We visited the IFAT booth and met Sabine. She got her new shirt and is supporting the German Team. City of Düsseldorf flyers, magnets and pins are all over the place. A good city marketing.
DWA as the German Association organizes this event. The WEF boards appriciated this a lot and they will send a US-Team to the IFAT 2016 German Skills Competition.
The German Team on its way
Sponsor IFAT – Sabine Beck meets the team and got the right outfit.
44 Teams on the WEFTEC 2015
Lab Event – 16 and 17 Minutes – not bad for the first year
Team Düsseldorf – Process Event – 20 Minutes written test – hard brain work – we got a German translation
Day 1 of the competition. Entering with 8 team members and fans the trade show and all are dressed in the German style – that´s a show itself. Music on top and a smile on the face – the team get´s well known within a short time.
Process event was 20 minutes long and hard stuff. They prepared German translations and that was a good help.
Lab event was good. 16 and 17 minutes. The best team made it in 8 minutes. Some of the teams train the whole years once a week. They are fast and to the point.
We gave two interviews, visited some German compies and the IFAT booth and had good networking with the other teams. A wonderful day filled with many impressions to last for long time.
DWA/IFAT/Düsseldorf Teams arrive at the WEFTEC
Student Design Competition – two teams experiences with the magnatic boxes
24.000 people get the magazine . Düsseldorf training picture is printed in WE&T maganzine
The last preparations. Checking in, seeing the arena, joining the last lessions. The process task will start tomorrow morning at 10 am. Steve translated the 30 pages questions into German language, I checked the translation today, well done, excellent preparation for the German Team. Two Canada Teams will join. 44 Teams will show up tomorrow, the biggest Operator Challenge ever in the middle of the exhibition hall.
The teams are in a good spirit. Yesterday evening we went out and had some fun.
Today we supported the Student Design Competition in showing them our magnetic training box. They liked it very much. We have a magnetic board between the learning lounge and the WEF-bookshop. We show our DWA-Learning Box. Good opportunity.
New food for us
At the end of the breakfast the waste box is full. Plastic cups, plates etc. all over. The food is not that what we used to have in Germany. Nevertheless we tried them all the famous Chicago Pizza, the Hot Dogs and the Italien Beef Sandwich.
The team spirit is great and as you see we are coming closer to each other.
Team Düsseldorf with trainers Donnie and Stephen (they won 5 times the Medal)
DWA/IFAT All Star Team at the Training with the Rats
Hard work for Peter and Achim
Ulli is learning from the collegue
Training with the Chicago Sewer Rats
The DWA/IFAT ALL Star Team and Team Düsseldorf trained with the Chicago Sewer Rats and three WEFTEC jury members. Donnie, Stephen and Wesley won the title couple of times and they know all the details and the falts. They trained us from 8:30 till 17:00 and the Chicago Sewer Rats did an excellent job in coaching each of our team members.
The most difficult task is the pump challenge. We saw the pump the first time.
Thanks a lot for that training. It was a great opportunity and the German Teams enjoyed it a lot.
XXL Combined Stormwater Overflow Detention “Tank” sorry it is a reservoir. See the in and outlet in the back
In and Outlet for the stormwater – start will be in one month from now
CSO Chicago starting 2017, XXXL size, never seen before
What a scale of projects. I have seen the second largest combined stormwater overflow detention tank in Europe in Munich which has the size of two scoccer places. The new CSOs in Chicago is from a different star. One will be ready in one month and the second one will be ready, after 10 years of construction, in 2017.
These two big open reservoirs will serve the City of Chicago and will hopefully prevent the city by beeing flooded by heavy rainfalls. 40-50 storms a year occur. The deep tunnel project releases the normal sewer system and takes all overflows down into the ground. The length is about 150 km. The deapest point are the XXL Pumping Stations. There the water gets pumped up and gets treated.
