DWA Annual Conference in September 2014 – Topics

Our conference just finished. We had 350 participants and 50 companies. In Germany we discuss the following hot spots:

– Micro pollutions (medicin, cosmetics, cleaner, etc.) – does Germany needs a 4th stage of wastewater treatment? The Swiss goes that way. Germany did big researce in this way.  The fesults are comming up in 2015. Lets see the results.

– Sewage sludge, do we still use it for agriculture fertilizer in 2020? Phosphorus removal technology is needed. Big discussion, the normal furtilizer are also not always clean, fair play for all fertilizers is needed.

Good conference, good  discussions.

Visit to India/IFAT Mumbai in Okt. 2014

image

Just back from Mumbai. More than 1 Billion people. Water and waste problems everywhere. Less than 10% of the wastewater is treated. From the existing Wastewater Treatment Plants only 20% are working properly.

IFAT Mumbai had it’s second play.  Good participation – it will grow. I headed a session on water training. Good discussion and good cooperation. There is big demand for training in the industrial sector as well in the public once.

They have plenty of laws, but who puts it into action? I did a Training of Trainers session on a ETP Effluent Treatment Plant where 600 companies are connected. Children played around, everything was open. Pretty unusual for me. Enforcement is weak in India. The water regulator needs more support.
